The inter-institutional research unit "Circulation of Knowledge’s" initiative aims to develop perspectives and facilitate collaboration between the regionally-orientated disciplines and with the systematic disciplines. The research unit wants to motivate thinking about how the regional-specific potential for new scholarly questions can be optimally used. It is Area Studies' responsibility, due to its specific linguistic and cultural capabilities, to develop the discussion about diverse entanglements in and between societies in a globalized world into a subject of study. 

The research unit subsequently initiates a dialog between representatives from different Berlin regional institutes and organizes regular meetings to facilitate exchange and mutual support between this group of scholars.
