In the 1990ies, the Wissenschaftskolleg supported various initiatives of former fellows to set up Institutes for Advanced Study in Eastern Europe. Later, other initiatives followed in other parts of the world. Today, these institutions are among the most important partners of the Wissenschaftskolleg.
