Agora is an agency for excellent European research projects and cooperations that grew out of the circle of the former Fellows and the network of the Wissenschaftskolleg. Agora projects are based on transnational research and funding associations and take an interdisciplinary or cultural-comparative approach. They thereby contribute to the development of an open European research landscape.
Europe, of course, must not be reduced to the continent's geographical unity or to the political structure of the European Union; rather, it is to be understood as a cultural dimension whose significance goes far beyond that: Europe's wealth and developmental chances are based precisely in its heterogeneity, which has crystallized in the course of history through constant influences from outside. The diverse interrelations with non-European and non-Christian cultures are an essential part of this. Beyond that, Agora's goal, along with the nation-states' research policies on the one hand and the European Commission on the other, is to create new opportunities for intercultural cooperation among excellent researchers.
The Wissenschaftskolleg provides support
- by mediating contact persons,
- in fundraising,
- in project management (mentoring), especially in selection processes, presenting reports, and evaluation

Cooperation partners

These are the Collegium Budapest, the New Europe College Bucharest, the Bibliotheca Classica in St. Petersburg, the Centre for Advanced Study Sofia, Point Sud - Muscler le Savoir Local in Bamako, Mali, the Studienkolleg zu Berlin as well as Network activities (NETIAS, SIAS, AUGIAS) and projects (Blue Bird, SIASSI, Finalität Europas, Ernst-Cassirer-Programm, and others).
