Financing

The Wissenschaftskolleg was founded by the Federal State of Berlin with the aid of the VolkswagenStiftung (founding contribution: 3.5 million DM and the building at Koenigsallee 21).

On the basis of the Research Funding Framework Agreement, the Wissenschaftskolleg is now funded in equal parts by the Federal State of Berlin and the German federal government. It receives regular donations from its institutional sponsors, Switzerland, and the Swedish foundation, the Stiftung Riksbankens Jubileumsfond. Projects are financed through third party funds. Additional private funds are received from the Friends of the Wissenschaftskolleg Association. With these funds, private donors guarantee the funding flexibility the Wissenschaftskolleg needs to respond on short notice to new challenges and opportunities.
